John Gordon (Gordie) Rogers

John Gordon (Gordie) Rogers

“slipped the surly bonds of Earth, put out his hand and touched the face of God,” on March 4, 2017, at the age of 88 years. All relatives were warned that he wanted to be 4 days dead before the news hit the newspaper. That we did for him –Now it is our turn. Gordon was born August 31, 1928, in Summerside, P.E.I. to Llewellyn and Audrey (Graves) Rogers. He was the fifth child and the fourth son. He left High School to help on the family fox farm. He later went on to run for Councillor for the Town of Summerside, following in his father’s and Great Grandfather’s foot steps. After completing his time there, he ventured into the world of Standardbred Horse Breeding by opening Prince Town Stables in Baltic, P.E.I. which proved to be quite successful with a large number of winners coming out of the stables. Due to age and health he had to rethink his passion. He was well known and welcomed in all areas of the Island, and spouted genealogy wherever he went. He had a great knowledge of his roots and gladly shared them when questioned. Gordon was predeceased by his Father and Mother. Also Brothers (and their wives); Arthur (Beryl Redmond); “Brud” (G.Ferno) (Eleanor [Bobbi Bagnall] Hinton); Ralph (Doris Bowden); and Sister Claudia Rogers; Brothers-in-Law Forein (Cab) Melanson; Gerard (Jerry) Jardine. He is survived by his Sisters Ruth Melanson (Moncton, N.B.) and Marion Jardine (Lethbridge, AB). Also, many Nephews; Nieces; Grand, and Great-Grand Nieces and Nephews. There will be a small Memorial held at Peoples Cemetery, Summerside, Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 1 p.m.
