Egbert Wallace "Bert" Caldwell

CALDWELL, Egbert Wallace “Bert” – 90, Valley, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hardwoodlands, Hants County, he was a son of the late Egbert L. and M. Alice (Gay) Caldwell. Following an early career as a farmer, Bert worked for many years in the Insurance industry, retiring in 1989. He was an active member and former elder of Valley United Church. Bert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen Kathleen (Campbell); children, Cathy (Carl) Longard, Valley; David (Rita) Caldwell, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Jennifer Caldwell (Stephen Beehan), Manotick, Ontario; John (Meggie) Caldwell, Dartmouth; great grandchildren, Jack and Emily Caldwell; sisters, Blanche Tanner, Hardwoodlands; Mary Boylan, Halifax; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Caldwell; several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth; sister, Muriel in infancy; brothers-in-law, Earle Tanner, Ross Boylan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Bert’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., today, Thursday, August 3, 2017. Funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2017, at Valley United Church, 110 Salmon River Road, Valley, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Interment will be held in Crossroads Cemetery. Reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Bert’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed.
