It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gerald Aloysius Murphy announce his passing on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the age of 87 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Fern (nee Pike); his children: Christine (Wycliffe Dawe), Corner Brook, Sean (Cindi), Doha, Qatar and Diane (Darrin Bowers), St. John's; precious grandchildren: Michael and Michelle Dawe, Cameron and Alex Murphy; special pet Moka; sisters: Maureen MacDonald and Joan Hoddinott; brothers: James Murphy, Patrick (Patricia) Murphy and Leo (Colleen) Murphy; sisters-in-law Maisie (Freeman Brake) and Joan Pike; as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to his home care worker Patsy Hann and his long time neighbor and friend Arch Legge. He was predeceased by his parents James and Gertrude Murphy; sisters: Shirley Dunphy and Gertrude Hynes; father and mother-in-law Harrison and Annie Pike; brothers-in-law: Harvey MacDonald, Kevin "Bud" Dunphy, John Simms, Frederick Pike and Gerald Hynes; sisters-in-law: Gertrude Murphy and Muriel Simms. Friends may visit Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Saturday, August 5 and Sunday, August 6 between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. from The Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mt. Bernard Avenue with Father Ed Terry officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to Most Holy Redeemer Parish or The Kidney Paired Donation Program.
