Marvin Charles McRae

McRAE, Marvin Charles – Age 60, Nuttby, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on Friday, August 4, 2017. Born in Truro, he was a son of Douglas and Irene (Murray) McRae, Nuttby. Marvin was an avid snowmobiler who helped pioneer the trail system in northern Nova Scotia, establishing trails and spending many hours grooming. He loved traveling great distances riding his Harley, including six trips across Canada and exploring much of the US. Many times he and Susan left for “a little run” and you (she) never knew where they would end up. He also had a great appreciation for bluegrass music, spending many weekends at festivals and countless hours listening to his favourite bands. Marvin opened McRae Auto Electric in 1989 and was one of the first mechanics to install air conditioning in heavy equipment, and did so throughout the Atlantic Provinces. He later worked in the Alberta oil patch for ten years before returning home in 2015. Along with his parents, Marvin is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan (Wells); children, Eric, Halifax; Jeffrey, Greenwood; Joanne (Charlie Munro), Valley; precious grandchildren, Jessie and Douglas; sisters, Heather Legere, Bonnie McCutcheon (Dave Arsenault), Tracy (David) Murdock, Lorna (Roger) McCallum; brother, Steven (Amanda); many nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Marvin’s family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2017, and funeral service will be held 4:30 p.m., Monday, August 7, 2017, Pastor Stephen Shaddick officiating. Interment will be held in Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Upper North River. Reception will follow at the McRae Farm, Old Nuttby Road, Nuttby. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Marvin’s memory to Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Nuttby United Baptist Church or charity of choice are welcomed.
