Passed on: August 10th, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grand, great and great-great grandmother, Anastasia MacSween, in her 100th year, on August 8, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born September 28, 1917 in Thorburn, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary- Jane (MacInnis) MacNeil.
Stasia is survived by her daughters, Florence, Aloyse, Mary, Donna and Danelle; son-in-law, Patrick Casey; her grandchildren, Patricia, Danny, Kelly, John, Vicky, James, Stacey, John Michael, Anthony, Matthew, Kiely and Candy; 14 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren and their families.
Anastasia was steadfast in her faith and lived her life according to those guiding principles. In Stasia's smile, you could see the twinkle of affection. Stasia was dedicated to her parish and her Charismatic Renewal family. Before retirement, Stasia cherished her position at the Cape Breton Hospital working with patients in ReMotivational Therapy. Stasia loved spending time reading, and following Canadian and International politics.
Anastasia is the last surviving member of her family. Besides her parents, Stasia was predeceased by her husband, Dan; daughter, Kaye; sons-in-law, John MacNeil and Bill Palmater, and a daughter in infancy, along with siblings, Sister Jean Carmel, Edith and Francis.
Visitation will be held at V.J McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 12 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan, with a reception to follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
The family expresses gratitude to Palliative Care and VON for their professionalism and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Patient Comfort Fund, VON, or St. Leonard' s Parish.
"Her strength and character enriched all of our lives."
