SURETTE, Ludger Pierre – age 92 of Yarmouth, N.S. passed away August 16, 2017 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Surette's Island, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of the late Romain and Deline LeBlanc. Ludger was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was a carpenter by trade and in his younger years went lobster fishing. Back in the day he was an avid baseball player winning back to back provincial championships with the Meteghan Shipyards. He also volunteered his time by coaching and umpiring for minor baseball for many years. In his spare time he had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, bowling and was a Boston Red Sox Fan. He was also known to be a talented woodworker. He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Rob) Lowe, Yarmouth; sons, Gregory Surette (Kim Delaney), North Chegoggin and Stephen (Kim) Surette, Yarmouth; son-in-law, Bill Fevens; grandchildren, Peter, Timothy, Danielle, Jonathan, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Christina, Patrick, Joshua and 10 great-grandchildren. Ludger was the last surviving member of his immediate family and besides his parents was predeceased by his wife, Anne Marie Surette; daughter, Susan Fevens; brothers, Arthur, Leo, Alphonse, Albert, Freddie; sisters, Anna, Rosanne, Rita, Gusta. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Monday August 21, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with prayers at 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday August 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. from Saint Ambrose Cathedral with Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. A reception will follow the interment in the Jubilee Room. In lieu of flowers donation in memory may be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund.
