David K. ERVIN

With sadness, we regret to announce the passing of our brother, David Keith Ervin on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born October 27, 1945, he was the son of the late D. Keith and Catherine (Nicholson) Ervin. Dave attended Riverview Rural High School and was a graduate of Cape Breton University. In his early years, he was a member of the Canadian Air Force, but returned to Cape Breton, where he was employed at Sydney Steel until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Steelworker’s Union and was president for a number of years. As a founding member of ACAP, Dave enjoyed many years on the executive and also served on many community boards and associations over the years. Dave is survived by his sisters, Linda (Brennan) Sheppard, Bucklaw and Gail (Robert) Muir, Groves Point. He had nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly. He was blessed with many good friends and neighbours, especially best friend, Bernie LaRusic. Bernie was always there for him like a brother. Dave had many opinions and was willing to share them. He loved to read and had an unbelievable memory. He also enjoyed local musicians and their music. Dave recently donated most of his books to local libraries. He had an avid interest in politics at all levels and, in particular, was an NDP supporter. We would like to thank Dr. Susan Macleod and the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care and especially, EHS. A special thanks to Janet Bickerton, Alan MacPherson and Terry Proctor for their special attention in times of need. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Dave’s life will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. One of Dave’s favorites’ was Feed Nova Scotia.
