Jody Mason

Passed on: August 17th, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of an extraordinary, heroic individual whose existence has changed the world of so many for the better. Jody Mason - eternal optimist; master selfie taker and perpetual winner of the best smile - passed peacefully away in the arms of his soul mate and wife, Cavell, on August 17, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Age 39 years. Predeceased by his loving parents: B. Joseph Mason (Jr.) and Rosalind Mason (nee LeDrew). Leaving to mourn with treasured memories: his loving wife Cavell (nee Smith); sister Jolyn (Myron); aunt Dallas Hewitt (Richard); great-aunt Daphne Earle; cousins near and far; his brother by choice Dave Jeans and his partner, Katrina Roberts as well as special friends Keith and Cathy Kelly (and the entire Kelly clan); step-mother Anne Mason (and step family in North Carolina); his brave YACC family from all across Canada and a legion of friends. The man, the myth, the legend is resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd, St. John's with visitation on Sunday, August 20th and Monday, August 21st from 1PM - 4PM and 7PM - 9PM. A celebration of his inspirational life will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd at 1PM at the Chapel at Carnell's with a reception to follow. We invite those attending his Celebration of Life, who are comfortable to do so, to salute our favourite real-life superhero by wearing a superhero t-shirt in his honour. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jody's name may be made to Young Adult Cancer Canada. A special thank you to the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at the Leonard Miller Centre and the entire Oncology Team at the Health Science Centre for their kindness and compassion.

"Carve your name on hearts, not on tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they tell about you." ~Shannon Adler~
