Fredrick Robert Ford passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017. Fred battled kidney failure and received dialysis three times a week since September 2005. In his early days, Fred spent his time out in the woods and on the Winnipeg River near Pine Falls, MB, hunting and fishing, which he continued most of his life. He was born at Sturgeon Falls, ON. The family moved to Pine Falls when Fred was quite young. At age 15, he worked as a cookie for Commonwealth Construction, and later on, worked at several labourer jobs at the Abitibi Mill in Pine Falls. He attended the University of Toronto and received his Bachelor of Science in Forestry in May 1955. Fred and Pauline married at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Ottawa, ON. From 1955 to 1957, he worked as a forester in Quebec and Ontario. He then worked as a forester from 1957 to 1980 for the Saskatchewan Department of Natural Resources. From 1981 to 1987, he worked as Regional Director of the Department of Natural Resources in Hudson Bay and then in Saskatoon. Fred retired in 1987. A year later, he became Forestry Instructor at Prince Albert SIAST until 1997. Fred then volunteered at the Roman Catholic Diocese Archives for five years. Throughout his lifetime, Fred always enjoyed tending his garden and flowers each summer. Fred will be lovingly remembered by: his wife of 62 years Pauline (nee Ford); his daughter and son-in-law Joanne and Ken Hebblethwaite; his grandson Daniel Hebblethwaite; his sister Florence Dandeneault; his brother Edward Ford; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by: his parents Fred and Alma Ford; his infant son Joseph; his son James; his sisters Katherine (Jack) Anderson, Margaret Ford and Madeleine (Doug) Hicks. The family would like to thank the physicians Dr. Sukkhu and Dr. Klassen, nephrologists, nurses and other staff who worked with Fred over the years. Their dedication and caring manner were greatly appreciated. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Prince Albert, with Celebrant Father Tuyen Vu. Memorial donations may be made to the Dialysis Unit, Victoria Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, Donald M. Moriarty, Funeral Director.
