Waldemar passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the age of 87 at Extendicare in Saskatoon, SK. He will be missed by his loving wife, Ruth; five daughters, Kathleen (Blake) Penson of Saskatoon, Sandra (Leo) Derksen of Saskatoon, Jeanette (Michael) Schroeder of Calgary, Donna (Darrell) Schroeder of Saskatoon, Sharon (Jeff) Jenkins of Winnipeg; 3 grandchildren Bradley Derksen, Ryan (Melissa) Derksen, Rachael Schroeder; extended family members Adelina Martens, Leona Martens, Arnold & Frieda Janz, Elaine Janz, Malinda & Hugo Schmidt, Rubina & Bill Krestinski, Lois & Henry Froese; and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Abram & Justina Janz; his brother, Jacob Janz; and his brothers-in-law Roy Martens and Art Martens. Waldemar was born on March 27, 1924 at Main Centre, SK. His parents regularly took him to Sunday School and church. He was born again and received Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour on July 17, 1941 at an evangelistic tent meeting in Herbert, SK. He was baptized and joined the Main Centre M.B. Church on September 12, 1943. He studied one year at Briercrest Bible College and then returned to his family farm. He married Ruth Marie Ewert on July 23, 1952. He was a loving, caring and faithful husband. Farming was a passion and a partnership as they worked together and raised their five girls. They lived at Main Centre from 1952 to 1984, then moved to Swift Current but continued to farm from the city for many years. In 2005 they moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family. Church was always a special part of Waldemar’s life. He faithfully served as treasurer in the Main Centre Sunday School and sang in numerous church choirs and groups. He loved to read and had a special interest in Bible prophecy. He enjoyed curling, baseball, and watching sporting events like hockey, football and curling. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his willingness to help, and his generosity with his time and money. He loved his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. A Celebration of his Life was held on Thursday, April 21, at 2:00 p.m. at West Portal Church, 3134 33rd Street West, Saskatoon, SK. The family wishes to thank the staff at Extendicare Preston and Primrose Chateau for their loving care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westbank Bible Camp, Box 1841 Swift Current, SK S9H 4M6. Arrangements were entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home (306) 254-2022.
