WORTHINGTON, Shirley Florence – age 80, Brazil Lake, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Thursday, September 7, 2017 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born January 20, 1937 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late George and Hazel (King) Rogers. Shirley served with the Royal Canadian Army, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant. She then worked in retail management until her retirement. Family was everything to Shirley and she was especially fond of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard “Dick”, as well as by children, Wayne Smith, Brazil Lake and David (Ronda) Smith, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Cody (Dawn), Travis, Tiffany, Kara, Leanne and Herbie; great grandchildren, Taylor, Bailey, William, Brody, Giana, Oliver and Vaida. Also surviving are brother, Bob (Donna), Pleasant Lake; sisters, Sandra (Otis), Salmon River and Darlene (Gerry), Yarmouth, along with many nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Charlie. In accordance with the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there was no visitation. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 12 from H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Pastor Kevin Myers officiated. Burial will take place at a later date. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
