Fernwood Smith

Smith, Fernwood Leslie- age 68, Bay Side Home, Barrington, formerly of Wood’s Harbour, Shelb. Co. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 10, 2017. Born in Doctors Cove on October 31, 1948 to Harold and the late Vera (Sears) Smith. Fernwood was a kind, hardworking man who always put others before himself. He was a true fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays spending many hours “coaching” from his chair. He would always start the beginning of every season stating,“ This is going to be the year they win, I just
know it”. His love of gardening was shown in his prize winning vegetables. He enjoyed sharing his crop and tricks of the trade with anyone who asked. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 34yrs Trudy (Nickerson) Smith. He is survived by his father, Harold, Atwoods Brook; brothers,
Rickey (Pam), Shag Harbour; Timmy, Barrington; children, Jackie (Angus), Brass Hill; Jamie (Whitney), Julia (Bryant), and Meagan (Chris) all of Wood’s Harbour. He was a proud loving “Gramp” to Tristan, Jaydon, Travis, Raeann, Tori, Ocean, Cooper, Lyndie and Jaymee. In accordance with Fernwood’s wishes a brain donation was made to the Maritime Brain Tissue Bank, in hopes to help others fight dementia. The family would like to thank the staff of VON, Bay Side Home, Dr. Baker and Dr. Yee for their continuing support and excellent care given to Fernwood. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home,
Barrington. Visitation will held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 6-8pm at H.M. Huskilson’s. There was a celebration of his life held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 2pm with Rev. Danny Smith officiating at the Calvary United Baptist Church, Wood’s Harbour. Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Wood’s Harbour. Family flowers only, in lieu of
