HUBBARD, Elmer Louis - age 73, Amirault’s Hill, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2017 in hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 29, 1944 in the family home in Amirault’s Hill, he was the youngest child of the late Adolphe and Evelyn Hubbard. Elmer is survived by his brother Ralph (Eileen) Hubbard, Amirault’s Hill, as well as sisters Verly (Clarence) Warner, Abram’s River and Geraldine (Walter) Queenan, Naples, Florida. Elmer worked for the Department of Highways for 34 years, retiring in 2008 and he could always be found in his “shed” repairing furniture, crafting axe handles, or working on whatever project was left at his workshop door. The “shed” often served as the local gathering place where many stopped in to check on a project or just to sit awhile and share a yarn and a laugh. Cancer may have taken Elmer’s voice but it did not take his spirit nor his faith in God. Elmer faced all of the hardships of the last year of his life head-on and did not waiver nor did he once complain. Elmer accepted his fate and was not afraid of death. He forgave all those who had transgressed against him and loved those who loved him that much more. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. May the way he lived-out his final days be an example and lesson for us all. When a loved one becomes a memory that memory becomes a treasure. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation in accordance with his wishes. The funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 15 at Holy Family Church, Amirault’s Hill, Father Maurice LeBlanc officiated. Internment followed in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund. You may leave messages of condolence or sign the online guestbook by visiting www.huskilson.net
