Passed on: September 14th, 2017

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Matthew Allan Keating, age 27, beloved father, son, brother, partner and friend, on Thursday, September 14, 2017.
Born in Sydney, NS on February 11, 1990 Matthew was the son of Allan and Joan (Gillis) Keating.
Besides his parents Matthew is survived by his daughter, Madison Ella Keating; partner, Theresa O’Brien; brothers, Michael (Michelle) Keating and Mark (Melissa) Keating; paternal grandmother, Phyllis (Ramsay) Keating; maternal grandmother, Nan (Thomas) Gillis, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Francis Keating; maternal grandfather, John Angus Gillis; uncles, Raymond and Joseph Gillis, and aunt, Susan (Keating) Matthews.
Matthew’s pride and joy was his beautiful daughter, Madison. He was so proud to start his own family with Theresa. He would beam when he spoke about his family and couldn’t wait to share Madison’s latest milestones.
Matthew’s best friends were his brothers Michael and Mark. The 3 M’s. They could always be found playing hockey, swimming or boating in their backyard. When he wasn’t outside, he also enjoyed time inside cooking and making amazing food for friends and family.
The ocean held a special place in his heart, especially the great times spent with family and friends in Whale Cove. Matthew loved snorkeling, climbing rocks, hunting for mussels and crabs, and competing in raft wars, especially against his Mira nanny.
Matthew’s easy going personality and selflessness made him a true friend to everyone who knew him. He recently achieved his third year apprenticeship in carpentry, making his dad very proud.
We all loved him so much and are going to miss his infectious smile and kind soul.
Visitation for Matthew will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, September 18 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19 at Our Lady of Fatima, Sydney River, Rev. Duaine Devereaux and Rev. Norman MacPhee will concelebrate.
Donations may be made to Cairdeil Place in memory of Matthew.
