ROGERS, John Henry - 84, formerly of Wolfville, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011 in the Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Wolfville on August 20, 1926, he was the son of the late Howard and Viola (Rogers), Rogers. He was a loving husband of Ena (Allen) for 62 years. He was employed wit Canada Packers, Port Williams for 16 years and for a short time John and Ena operated Allen’s Meat Market, Wolfville. In 1991 he retired from A.C.A. Co-Op where he was employed 25 years. John will be remembered for his kindness, gentleness and generosity towards others and his love for family. He received a certificate in honour of his faithful service as a member of the Wallbrook United Baptist Church. Following retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and made furniture for his children, grandchildren and other family members. He also enjoyed camping, walking and traveling. John is survived by his wife, Ena; two daughters, Julie Rogers, Melanson Road; Sherry Lee (John) Vandertuin, Lakeville; a granddaughter, Megan (John) Hopkins; a grandson, Devan Vandertuin, Cambridge; a brother Thomas (Delma), Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Frances (James) Benjamin, Mildred (Harold) Bishop, Elizabeth (Arthur) Kelly, Jenette (Elmer) Walsh; brothers, Ken and Leslie. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was followed by a reception at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2011, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiatied. Burial took place in the Gaspereau Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Wallbrook Baptist Church.
