Annie Margaret MacKenzie

Passed in: Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: September 17th, 2017

It is with shattered hearts that we announce the passing of Annie Margaret MacKenzie (of Boularderie and Yarmouth) on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband of 39 years, Raymond D. MacKenzie.
She is survived by her only child, her sunshine, Michelle and much cherished son-in-law, Michael Martell. She is also survived by her brothers, Winston Smith and John Smith.
Margaret was the daughter of the late Donald John and Annabelle Smith, and was predeceased by sisters, Evelyn Matheson and Christine Smith.
Margaret was a retired school teacher. For 35 years she taught various grades from primary to grade 12 and was principal for many years. She was a huge supporter of the Highland Dance community and attended countless performances and competitions with her daughter. She loved Celtic music and a good Ceilidh. Gaelic was her first language.
After her retirement, she became an avid crafter when she joined the Monroe Crafters Guild. She also enjoyed gardening and took great pleasure in her flowers.
Margaret had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone. She was an unassuming woman, who preferred to stay in the background while dedicating her life to making sure everyone else was taken care of. She loved family gatherings, preparing and cooking tirelessly to make sure no one ever left hungry. She also loved animals and made sure that any around always had full bellies. Although Cape Breton was her home, she loved spending time in Yarmouth and enjoyed her daily outing to Tim Hortons.
A sincere than you to Dr. Blair MacDonald and the ICU staff of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital for their exemplary care and kindness, we could not have asked for anything more. A heartfelt thank you also to Dr. Joe Gillis for your care, concern and professionalism, you made things so much easier for us. Thank you also to Dr. K. Peltekian, Dr. V. McAlister, Dr. Z Gao, and team (Halifax) for saving her life almost 19 years ago, as well as Dr. John Kirkpatrick of North Sydney.
Visitation will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church on Friday, Sept 22, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. with funeral on Sat 23 at 2 p.m. in the church also. Burial will be in MacDonald Cemetery, Ross Ferry. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home.
