The death occurred at Western Hospital, Alberton, on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 of, former Chief "Jack" John Joseph Thomas Sark, of Lennox Island First Nation, aged 83, beloved husband of Marilyn (nee Francis). Jack was a respected Mi'kmag leader and Chief of Lennox Island First Nation from 1972 to 1998. Born on February 7, 1934, son of the late John James and Elsie (Houghton) Sark. Dear father to Darcy (Mary), and Peter. Loving granddad to Jack, Jason, Tommy, Mia, Tanner, Jordon, Brittany, Nathan, Nicole, Joel, Jacob, Kiara and his numerous great grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters and brothers in law, Fran Sark, Doreen Sark, Martina (David) Benton, Dianne Francis, Alan (Karen) Francis, Carolyn Sark, Chief Brian (Georgina) Francis and Beverley Francis. Jack is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack was predeceased by his parents, sons Kevin and Larry; sisters Sister Martha Sark, Sister Rebecca Sark, Joan Beaudin, Mary Iris Sark, brothers Charlie, Raymond and John Reuben in infancy. Resting at Ferguson Tyne Valley Funeral Chapel for visiting hours on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Monday morning until 10:30 a.m. then to St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church for Funeral Mass at 11. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery. In memory of Jack, memorials to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
