Charles Seldon Swan

SWAN, Charles Seldon, aged 69 of Truro, passed away suddenly at home on September 26, 2017. Charlie was born in Springhill, NS, the only son of Margaret (Hayes) Swan. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Victoria (Langille Rines); his two sons, Mike (Tanya), Bible Hill; and Tim (Becky), Hilden; stepchildren Gordon Rines (Brenda Bond), Riverside Corner; Diana Rines (Stanley Purvis), South Rawdon; and Billy Rines (Darlene Rines), Rawdon Gold Mines; his pride and joy - his grandchildren, Chris, Chelsey, Jacob, Aethan and Ashlie Swan (Dylan Schofield); Liam Swan, Bailey Clark; and Jessica Rines; great grandchildren, Chloe and Owen Schofield. Charlie will also be missed dearly by his feline companion, Oscar. Charlie’s working life began with the Canadian Armed Forces as a member of the Air Force, later the Militia, and a stint on the patrol vessel, Quest. In civilian life, he worked for Robb Engineering as a sandblaster, before turning to the painting trade, working for various companies as well as himself. For the last many years until his retirement, Charlie was an employee of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. Charlie was a grateful and active member of AA (Sunday Morning Breakfast Group) for nearly 32 years, as well as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #26, Truro. Charlie will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit and the unconditional love for and pride he took in his family. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. A memorial service will be held at Immaculate Conception Parish, 669 Prince St., Truro at 11:00 am on Monday, October 2, 2017, Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to a charity of choice. The family thanks everyone for their expressions of kindness during this difficult time.
