Deon Durnford

Deon Durnford

Passed on: October 6th, 2017

We’d like to celebrate the life of Deon Durnford, proud veteran, father, husband and Newfie who loved to hunt and laugh. Deon always filled a room with his humour and infectious smile. He proudly served his country in back to back tours in Bosnia with the PPCLI, and on various military bases all across Canada next to his military family, friends, and comrades.
He is loved unconditionally by his wife, Paulette; his daughter, Robyn; step-son, Ryan (Chelsea), along with his father, Samuel Durnford (Audrey), and late mother, Vera Durnford. His hunting buddies and brothers, Mike, Barney and Jamie will get a big moose for Deon and their late brother, Frank. Sister-in-laws, Darlene, Kimberly, Yvonne, and Diedre will help make the moose stew. His many nieces and nephews will fondly remember him as the uncle who always showed up with a good story and the biggest hugs.
Deon loved his wife Paulette and daughter Robyn with his whole heart. He was a man who would give anyone the shirt off his back and cared immensely about his family. He touched the lives of everyone he met and taught his family the value of helping others before yourself. He gave the best ear scratches to his cats, Winchester and Kimber.
Deon, 46, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital palliative care unit. There will be no service, and his ashes and memory will rest at home with Paulette until her passing, at which time they will be spread together at his favorite hunting spot, Annieopsquotch Mountains, in his home town of Burgeo, Newfoundland.
In lieu of flowers, the Durnford family requests donations to be made to the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association in memory of Deon at hospicecapebreton.org.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
