McLEAN, Elizabeth Janet “Beth” – 96, Orchard View Apartments, Berwick, formerly of Middleton, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Beth was born in Glenelg, Grey Co., Ontario on July 10, 1914 to parents James and Mary (Binnie) McGillivray. She lived in Durham, Ontario, until 1947, then to RCAF Station Lachine, Quebec and RCAF Station Greenwood, NS. In 1955, she moved to Middleton, NS. Beth was very active all her life and involved in the St. John’s United Church, IODE, Middleton Curling Club and Soldiers Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Beth especially enjoyed her times at the summer cottage in Margaretsville. Beth was predeceased by her husband W/C C.D. McLean; brothers, Gordon and Alex; sister, Jean and granddaughter Leslie (Martyn) Banks. She is survived by sons, Donald (Muriel), Kingston, ON; Kenneth (Judith), Harbourville; daughter, Jean (Frank) Martyn, Greenwood; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren. By Beth’s request, cremation has taken place and there was no visitation. A memorial service was held 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2011 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. Rev. Karen Ralph officiatied Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. A reception for family and friends followed the interment. By request, family flowers only. Donations in Beth’s memory may be made to the Soldiers Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice. A heartfelt thank you is extended to Dr. Paul MacLean, Dr. Lori Burgess, Katrina Patterson and all the nursing staff, Soldiers Memorial Hospital and also staff at Orchard View Apartments, Berwick for their compassionate care shown to our mother and grandmother.
