OBITUARY
Alex Maxwell Smith
February 16th, 1927 – October 7th, 2017

Passed away peacefully at The James Paton Memorial Health Centre, Gander on Saturday, October 7th, 2017, Alex Maxwell Smith, age 90 years. Predeceased by his parents Allan and Gertrude Smith, 2 brothers Melvin and Hubert. Left to mourn are his wife Carrie, sons David (Nina), Danny (Gloria), Douglas, daughter Donna (Clarence), sisters Ethel Rose, Hilda Young (Ray), Grace Butler, Stella Hughes (Mike), Loretta Brinson (Edwin), grandchildren, Crystal Smith, Carolyn Smith, Allan Smith, Ryan Smith (Bambi), Jeffrey (Barbora), Nicole Denty (Hedley), Jennifer Denty and Elizabeth Denty, great-grandchildren Kalee Smith, Sophia Smith, Jackson Smith, Isabella Smith, Josefina Smith, Evangelina Pritchett and Tyler James Denty. Also, a large circle of relatives and friends. Alex was born at Bay Bulls Arm, Trinity Bay. He moved to Gander on March 20th, 1943 and later met the love of his life Carrie Smith (Powell). Together they raised 4 children. Alex Maxwell enjoyed life to the fullest with his family. Many camping trips across Newfoundland/Canada accompanied by his K-9 best friend Chipper. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping and he also was an experienced carpenter building his own house, boats, his father’s house (Allan Smith), along with helping build his brother Hubert's house.
Alex and Carrie Smith were happily married for 65 years where every afternoon, later in life, they sat down and enjoyed The Young and The Restless together in their living room. He also enjoyed watching his hockey games (his favorite team was The Chicago Blackhawks). He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and pet owner. He loved to sit in his rocking chair with his little AM/FM radio by his ear jamming to Newfoundland music including his favorite tune All Fly Away. In his earlier years, he took a ride on the wild side, burning down the road on his motorcycle with his brothers Melvin and Hubert. Rested at Stacey's Funeral Home. Funeral service was held on Monday, October 9th at 2:00 P.M. from Fraser Road United Church, Gander. Cremation will follow. Arrangements entrusted through Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander.
