Donald Keith "B.F.D." Legge

Donald Keith "B.F.D." Legge

LEGGE, Donald Keith “B.F.D.” – 68, Truro, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 12, 2017, at Vimy Court, Bible Hill. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Keith and Thelma (Acker) Legge. Donnie was president of AJ Walker and Son until his retirement in 2003. As a child, he was a proud member of First Baptist Boys Choir. He was very community minded and chaired and served on many organizations. In the early 80s he spearheaded "Downtown Truro Revitalization Program”. He served on and chaired Truro Development Corp., Truro Business Improvement District Commission and Truro Business Improvement District Committee. Donnie was on the original committee to create Colchester Regional Development Organization, but his favourite by far was Truro Parking Commission. He chaired the commission and it did work at a level unheard of at that time and set precedence for small towns in the Maritimes; he directed the Parking Commission to buy land for parking and often sold the land for development. He was often asked to speak at meetings and conventions because of its ground breaking work, but its success couldn't be copied because it was Donnie's very large personality that made it work. He was a very community minded man whose passion and forethought was to make Truro the best it could be for future generations. He was Referee in Chief and served as past president of Truro Jr B Bearcat Hockey Team, Truro Minor Hockey Association and Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission, coached and refereed hockey and baseball, member of Ducks Unlimited, Truro Kinsmen Club and The Truro Club. He enjoyed racing cars and motorcycles at Onslow Speedway and Atlantic Motorsports Park. In his spare time, he enjoyed snowmobiling, four wheeling, “hunting and fishing”, his annual trip to Scraggy Lake with “the boys” and playing cards, especially 45s and most recently learning how to play Bridge. Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan (Black); children, Patrick (Jill), Shortts Lake; Levi (Amanda), Stewiacke; Mackie (Michelle Hutt), Onslow; Zoë (Stewart) Dowe, Debert; grandchildren, Lucas, Connor, Cordelle, Ryley, Riley, Max, Zachary, Liam, Bridget, Colin, Emmeline; parents-in-law, Gordon and Joan Slack, Debert; sister, Carole (Howard) Phee, Ontario; sister-in-law, Josie (Gerald) Babineau, Debert; brothers-in-law, Gary Black, Debert; Joe (Toby) Slack, Little Dyke; nieces and nephews, Yan, Melodie, Lacey, Jenna, Keith, Olivia, Alec. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Warren. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Adam Aleksis and the staff of Vimy Court for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Donnie and his family. There will be a celebration of Donnie’s life from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Best Western Glengarry (MacDonald Room), 150 Willow Street, Truro. Private family funeral service will be held. If so desired, donations in Donnie’s memory to Colchester SPCA or TAAC Revitalization Project are welcomed.
