Harvey Scott MacLeod

We regret to announce the passing of Harvey Scott MacLeod, a resident of 400 King’s Rd., Sydney, on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Harvey was the son of the late John Alexander ‘Jack’ and Sarah Margaret ‘Sadie’ (MacLean) MacLeod.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and son, Matthew (Sin Fong Li); sister-in-law, Carole MacLeod, Hammonds Plains, and six nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Andrew.
After Joining Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation in 1956, he worked for some of the foremost public relations practitioners in the steel industry, including Laurence Doucet, Arnie Patterson (P.R. man of the year 1958) and Pat Kelly, of Hawker Siddelly Canada.
With the formation of Sydney Steel Corporation in 1968, Harvey was appointed Public Relations Officer. He held various management positions, in subsequent years, before retiring as Director of Human Resources and Community Relations in December 1993. Harvey Held a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Certificate from the Canadian Institute of Management.
Active in the Community, he spent 10 years as an instructor with #587 Squadron, Whitney Pier Air Cadets. Later he was a Ten year member and past president of the Sydney Rotary Club, and for the past six years a member of the Kiwanis Golden K Club of Cape Breton.
He was a member of the former St. Andrew’s United Church, where he served on the Board of Stewards, and the Board of Trustees, then joining the United Heritage Church upon its formation. In earlier years, he was active in bowling, softball, hockey and curled for 25 years. Harvey and Barbara were avid skaters and part of the Coxheath Seniors Skating Group for many years.
Harvey was impressed with the quality of medical care he received over the years. Special thanks to Dr. Gregory Myatt and Nurse Janis Black, Dr. Siva Thanamagoran, Dr. Tom Hewlitt, Dr. Jeung and Nurses Linda, Wendy, Paula, Clara and Steffi of the Renal Clinic, and Crystal and the wonderful staff of the Renal Dialysis Unit. Also to Dr. Paul MacDonald, Dr. Paul Morrison, Dr. Busaid and nurse Practitioner Sandra Toner of the Heart Function Clinic.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Loaves and Fishes or Charity of Choice.
