It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Joan Mary Campbell, age 85, on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Born on April 9, 1932 in Sydney Mines, Joan was the eldest daughter of the late Edward and Annie (Young) Forrest. In her early years Joan worked at the Alder Point Fish Plant. Joan loved nothing more than to play cards around the kitchen table with her family and loved to go to Sydney with her friends to try her luck at Bingo. Throughout her life Joan enjoyed many many things, the one thing each of these activities had in common was her family, her beloved and loving family.
Joan is survived by her children, Marlene (Allan), Hector (Rosemary), Jimmy (Connie), Dorothy (Glen), Robert (Florence), Cathy (Kenny), all of Sydney Mines, Alex (Theresa), St. Catherine’s and Allan (Cathy), Georges River.
Joan is also survived by her 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson, also surviving are siblings, Eileen, Bernadette, Lloyd (Millie), Russell, Melvin (Rosena), Linda, Donnie (Beryl) and Kevin.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Hector (Heck) Campbell, also predeceased by daughters, Donna and Heather who both died in very early childhood, and by brothers, Sonny and Edward, along with great grandson, Mitchell Brown.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the nurses and staff of the Northside Guest Home, Joseph Hall, Dr. Kohlsmith and the Nursing staff of 4th floor at the Northside General Hospital.
In keeping with Joan’s wishes cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Joan’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Parish, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating, with reception to follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital.
