Dad passed away in his 94th year at the Northumberland Veterans Unit, Pictou on October 13th, 2017. He was born in Trenton, Ontario on February 16, 1923 to the late Harry and Laura Woodacre. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor and three sons, Bevan, Wayne and Blaine; also brothers, Cecil, Phil; sisters, Patricia Price and Sheila Bull. He is survived by sister, Toni (Jim) McCoy, Winnipeg; four daughters, Diane (Richard Sherman) Elmsdale, Gail (Bill MacDonald), Myrna (Scott Aitken), Brenda, all of Pictou; son, Kendall (Ronalda), Calgary; daughters-in-law, Ruth Woodacre, Caribou River; Lesley Woodacre, Williams Woods, NS; his 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Jim was 27 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, serving in World War II and Korean War, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. At that time he joined Scott Paper as an Electrical Maintenance Planner, retiring after 17 years. After retirement, Dad and Mom enjoyed many years of travelling to Cuba. The Veterans Unit in Pictou was his home for the last three years of his life. They have a special place in our hearts for the wonderful care he received from all the staff. A special thanks to Dr. Burrill and his lifelong friend Bob Wong. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral mass will be held 11AM Wednesday, October 18th from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Stella Maris Parish Cemetery, with reception to follow in the church hall. Family flowers only please, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Comfort Fund of the Northumberland Veterans Unit, Pictou.
