Porter, Olive Mae “Ollie”, 84, of Windsor, formerly of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017 in the Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, where she had lived for the past seven years (June 2010). Born on April 30, 1933 in Brooklyn, Hants County, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred “Snip” Cochrane and Hazel (Lockhart) Martin. Ollie had been employed at the Payzant Memorial Hospital and also the Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home for many years. She was a member of Juniper Grove United Church, Falmouth where she taught Sunday School for many years. Ollie was a very caring person who really found her “nitch” when she went to work at the Windsor Elms and took pride in the care she gave to the residents. Music was very important to her. She and her girlfriend, Gloria Boyd, were known as The Morning Glories and in the evenings as The Sunset Saranaders on the local radio station. Ollie and Merle were always willing to sing, when asked. She loved to dance and her family learned some moves in the kitchen growing up. Although Ollie’s life was not always easy, she was always kind to others and willing to help in any way. She was very proud of her family. Surviving are her children, David (Heather) Porter; Nancy (Hally) MacDonnell; Anne-Marie (Doug) Porter; grandchildren, Jeremy (Susan) Porter, Everett (Laura) Porter, Joshua (Taleena) MacDonnell, Nicholas (Lindsay) MacDonnell, Denise (Josh) Reynolds, Lee-Ann (Maxime) McKay, Joseph (Meghan) McKay, Adam (Shelby) Barker, Jessica Barker; great grandchildren, Ryan, Elliana, Lisbeth, Skyler, Zoe, Molly, Grady, Mila, Reese, Anabeth, Theodore, Silas; siblings, Owen (Florence) Cochrane; Irving “Red” (Brenda) Cochrane; Brenda (Clayton) Aker; Emma (Merle) McCulloch; Glen (Cora) Martin; Debbie Martin; In-laws, Rachel Sheehy, Edna Porter, Ed Porter, Bev Trask; special friend, Harleigh Archibald. Predeceased by her parents, Wilfred Cochrane and Hazel (Lockhart) Martin; step-father, John Martin; husband, Everett Porter (2000); daughters, Beth McKay (2013); Elizabeth in infancy (1957); siblings, Geraldine Baxter, Winnie Rafuse, Mildred Murphy, Donna Flynn, Anna Brault, Fred Cochrane. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2017 in the Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0. Memorial service was 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Craig Faulkner officiated. Interment was in the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Falmouth.
