Samuel Chaulk

Born: October 26th, 1946

Passed on: October 15th, 2017

“I have lived a charmed life” were words Sam spoke often. Sam was an extraordinary individual who saw the best and beauty in everyone and everything around him. It is with a heavy heart that the family of the late Samuel Chaulk announces his passing on Sunday October 15th, 2017 at the age of 70 years.
Sam was born in 1946 in Corner Brook, NL. He was the oldest son of Fred Chaulk and the late Priscella Chaulk. He grew up in the little harbour of Mouse Island. That experience and setting became the backdrop for many colourful stories that lined his vibrant and humorous speeches.
On June 16th, 1967 Sam married, the love of his life, Norma LeRiche Chaulk. He leaves Norma with the everlasting gift of 50+ years of loving memories.
Sam is predeceased by: His mother (Priscella Chaulk), his mother and father in-law (Georgina and Raymond LeRiche), his three brothers in-law (Jerome Pearce, Robert ‘Bob’ Keeping, and Adrian Beaumont).
Sam is survived by: his father, Fred Chaulk, his brothers, Claude (Louise), Norman (Linda), Roland (Esther), and Otto (Cheryl), as well as his sister Kathleen. His three children: Paula, Sandra and son Stephen (husband to Ashley.) have been blessed and are forever grateful to have called Sam, Dad.
His memory will live on for his 6 grandchildren: Shannon, Rylan, Aselin, Ronan, Clare and Thatcher through the many memories and stories that he left behind. In his words, “you have made my life whole.”
Sam was joyfully adopted into the LeRiche clan when he married Norma. Hence, he leaves behind many kindred relationships from this extended family. In his words, “To my brothers, sisters and father. Thank you for giving me a life of excitement and love.”
His many students and colleagues will forever be inspired by his grace. His more than 40 years as an educator, both in the province and elsewhere in Canada, proved to be a beautiful arena to influence and touch the lives of so many others over several generations. His role extended into the community where he served over many decades as a strong community leader, humourist, and public speaker.
Sam’s wishes for cremation have taken place. A Celebration of Life followed by a joyful community gathering will be held this coming July 2018. Details will be shared publicly in due time. Any donations in Sam’s memory will be divided among several charities that were close to his heart (Two being: The Canadian Red Cross and Daffodil house).
Loved, cherished and so fondly remembered by so many as a mentor, friend, community leader, teacher, writer, storyteller, uncle, cousin, husband, son, father and grandfather, we are deeply blessed to have known Sam.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to East Haven Funeral Home Inc., Port aux Basques. 695-2300. www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
