SHEA, James Alvin “Al”, age 77, one day shy of his 78th birthday Al passed away on October 20th 2017, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. He was a son of the late Margaret (Hartling) & Bart Shea, both of Pictou. Left to mourn are his wife of 52 years, Marguerite (Martin) Shea; his children, Patti (Frank) Fardy, George (Andrea), Kathy (Brent) Melsted, and Dan (Erika); and his siblings, Myra (O'Callaghan) Ebbinge and Vern. He was very proud of his grandchildren, Xavier, Alvin & Robert Fardy, Dallis & Nick Shea, Jonah & Shanli Huckle, Jessica, Stephanie (Dustin) & Sara Melsted, and Reese, Riley & Keira Shea; also his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Betty Carson and Dean Ahearn; brothers, Harvey and Brian. Born in Caribou, October 21, 1939, Al grew up in Pictou, leaving to join the Air Force at 16. During his career, he was stationed in Shearwater, Trenton, and finally in Winnipeg with 17 Wing. He traveled the world and regaled us with his many stories, some true. He retired from the service in 1989 and found his way home to Pictou where he worked for the Scott Paper as a Commissionaire. In recent years, he enjoyed his visits with his grandchildren, his "council meetings" at Tim’s with his coffee buddies, and his garden. Dad also liked to keep tabs on the comings and goings from his front verandah. He will be sorely missed. The family extends their thanks to the Dr. Randy Burrill, the VON and EMS staff for their care over the last few years. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Tuesday, October 24th in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, October 25th from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to CARMA or the VON, or a charity of your choice.
