HANSEN, DR. ALDEN RAYMOND - November 24, 1925 - April 22, 2011 - Dr. Alden Raymond Hansen passed away on Good Friday, April 22, 2011, at the Southwood Hospice, Calgary, at the age of 85. Alden was born in Saint John, NB, the eldest son of E. Raymond and Theresa (Maxwell) Hansen. He was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University (1946) and the University of Ottawa School of Medicine (1952). He practiced medicine in Canso, NS, Bath, NB, and Dartmouth, NS. In 1967 he joined the staff of Imperial Oil where he practiced occupational medicine until December 1986 when he retired as Regional Medical Director. In 1951 Alden married Mary Frances “Fran” Weldon and together they raised seven children: Dr. Philip (Cathy) of Alberton, PEI, Susan Brassard (Kerry Moss), Carol (Rob) Perizzolo and Douglas (Nicole), all of Calgary. Three sons predeceased him: James, Robert and Thomas. His wife Fran passed away in 1996. His second wife, Margaret Krause, predeceased him in 2009. Alden was also survived by his brothers and sister: Dr. Donald (Maureen), Lewiston, NY; Rev Dr. P. Brian, Grand Bay-Westfield, NB; David (Doreen), Cambridge Narrows, NB; and Mary (Paschal) Chisholm, Saint John, NB; and daughters-in-law Cathy Hansen, Fredericton, NB, and Wanda Hansen. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law Shane Brassard. Alden's commitment to excellence in medical practice reflected his respect for the value of human life. Loyalty to faith and family ran deep and his greatest joy was found in the time spent with his children, his 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. His life's pleasures included good meals shared with family and friends, games of bridge and evenings cheering on the Flames.
Resting at McInnis and Holloway's Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) with prayers and visiting Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community Church, Calgary, on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to a charity of the donor's choice.
