New Glasgow - Stirling Gerald Snow, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, NS on October 30, 2017. Stirling was born at Ecum Secum, NS on March 27, 1928.
With his early employment in the wood industry, he graduated from Maritime Forest Ranger School in 1950 and went to work for the NS Department of Lands and Forests. This led to a fifteen-year career with the forest company, George Eddy. In 1967, he became an employee of Scott Paper until 1994, working in the Woodlands group and retiring in 1994 as General Manager of their Parrsboro Sawmill Division. He was also a licensed NS Land Surveyor. Stirling was an active member of the Trenton Church of the Nazarene serving as church treasurer and board member for many years. He was also the treasurer for the Shepherd’s Lunchroom.
Stirling married the local Guysborough County public health nurse, Isabel Aikens, on April 16, 1960 at New Glasgow, NS, and was blessed with a loving family. He helped raised his three children with love and devotion. His children and grandchildren were very important to him for whom he modelled a life of faithfulness to God and love for others. He also loved chauffeuring his grandchildren to their activities. Stirling is survived by his wife, Isabel; his children, Michael (Frances), Deborah (Alvin) Straub, and Robert (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Daniel, Joseph, Spencer, Caroline, Andrew, Victoria, Nathan, Margaret, and Sophia; his nephew, Wayne Snow, and his niece, Colleen Snow. He is predeceased by his parents, Garnet and Jessie, his siblings, Eric, Clyde, Gerald, Donald, Curtis, and Margaret (Peggy). He is dearly missed by his loved ones, and they celebrate that he is now at home with his heavenly Father.
Visitation is Wednesday, November 1, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. The funeral is at 2 pm on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Trenton Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Leon Teal officiating and Rev. Mark Collins bringing the message. Burial will be in Church Brook Cemetery followed by a reception at the Church of the Nazarene. Donations in his memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit C/O the Aberdeen Health Foundation.
