It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Theresa MacDonald, age 91, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, on Friday, October 27, 2017.
Mary Theresa was born at Scotch Lake, July 8, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Ann (MacInnis) MacDonald. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Church, Boisdale.
Mom was the matriarch of our family and was happiest when her home was filled with noise and laughter of her family. She was kind, patient and forgiving and a great influence on all of us. We never doubted her love or loyalty.
She is survived by her chosen children, Marie MacDonald (Earl Rudderham), Long Island, Theresa MacDonald, Halifax, Robert (Barb) MacDonald, Lawrencetown; her grandchildren, Patricia, Maggie, Betsy, Tennile, Donald, Cathy and Brenna; her great grandchildren, Noah, Brady, Layla, Connor and Ellie; her sister, Joan MacDonald, Ontario; sister-in-law, Hilda MacDonald, Sydney, also by several nieces and nephews.
Mary Theresa was predeceased by her husband, James Daniel MacDonald in 1973; by her sisters, Margaret (Matt) Walsh, Mary MacDonald and Annie Young; brothers, Malcolm, Joseph (Theresa), John (Babe), Angus (Marie) and Allan (Irene) MacDonald, also by three brothers in infancy.
We would like to thank Dr. John Kirkpatrick, Michelle Finney and the Palliative Care Team, also the Cape Breton County Homemakers who became like family. A very special thank you to Mom’s advocate, Betsy who was instrumental in allowing Mom to remain at home.
Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the St. Andrews Church, Boisdale, followed by a Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. with Rev. Vincent Travers officiating. Burial will take place in the Parish Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
