With sadness, we, the family of Karl Chester Borden, regret to announce his passing on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at home.
Born August 12, 1936, in Manchester, NS, Karl was the son of the late John and Rita (Reid) Borden.
He was known to all as ‘Ches’ or ‘Big Daddy’. Dad came to Cape Breton before the causeway was built, when you had to cross by ferry. During his lifetime, he worked numerous jobs, including, Tasco Sheet Metal, unloading the flour boats, a gardener for the LeVatte family and eventually, as a heavy equipment operator and laborer for LeVatte’s Construction. Before retiring, he was a security guard for the Canadian Tire property on Victoria Rd. Dad and Mom were together and married for 59 years. His family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were like precious gold.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laura (Bowden); daughters, Mary (Gerard) Hurel, Deborah (Roger) Reddick and Margaret Parker; son, Chester (Bernadette); sister, Shirley Campbell; brother, Lloyd Borden; grandchildren, Vincent Borden, Daniel and Cara Burton, Norma Johnson MacGregor, Lindsay and Kobe Parker, Kyesha, Jalen and Zachary Borden; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Camryn Graham, Karlee and Margaret Burton and Haley and Lily Borden, and special nephew, Craig J. Farmer.
Karl was predeceased by an infant son and two infant daughters; sisters, Mary Cousineau and Lola Borden, and brothers, Leslie, Kenneth and Raymond.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cape Breton Whitney Pier Youth Club.
