Katherine Bernice "Kay" MacDonald

It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful death of Katherine "Kay" Bernice MacDonald of Stratford on November 9, 2017 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, aged 91 years. Beloved wife of the late Eugene "Gene" MacDonald and dear mother of Gene Marie MacDonald, Anne Marie MacDonald Erly (James), Ronald John MacDonald, Claire Marie MacDonald and Peter Francis MacDonald. Loving grandmother of Joseph and Claire Erly and dear sister of Rose Virginia Bernatchez. She was predeceased by her infant son John Alban, parents Ernest and Margaret Roche, sisters Claire Howes (Warren deceased), Dorothy MacKenzie (Kenneth), Mary Stearns (William deceased), Frances Lorraine Frieburger (Edward deceased)’ Agnes Elaine Bouchard (Maurice), and brother Ernest Roche. With a strong and unfaltering faith, Kay lived a full and productive life. a forward-thinking woman, she was ahead of her time by becoming a school principal at age 18 and achieving a university degree in 1951. Kay was the epitome of generosity with her time, advice, counsel, and support. Her friends spanned all ages throughout her lifetime and all who knew her loved her so because they recognized in her pure goodness and light. Very few outside her children knew about Kay’s alter ego "Cait" who satisfied her impish side by saying silly things, giggling and stomping her feet in delight, as well as eating ice cream whenever she desired. In short, Katherine remained Katherine true to herself throughout her almost 92 years, admired by everyone for her faith, intellect, broadmindedness, and friendship. Our world is diminished with Katherine’s passing, but we draw strength knowing that she has been reunited with our beloved father Gene and our brother John.
