STANLEY J. LONG

Born In: NORTH SYDNEY
Born: February 9th, 1956

Passed in: SYDNEY
Passed on: November 9th, 2017

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Stan Long, 61 on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in North Sydney on February 9, 1956, he was the son of the late Arthur “Mush” and Doris (Robinson) Long.
Stan worked for a number of years with CN Marine in North Sydney as a steward aboard the ferries. In 1978 he joined his father at the Northern Yacht Club and continued to work there as a bartender for over forty years, after his retirement in 2013 he was made an honorary member. Stan made many friends over the years, both young and old, who would drop in to the Yacht Club simply because he was working, to have a chat, or be witness to his quick wit and dry sense of humour.
Stan was a dedicated husband and father and truly enjoyed his new role as grandfather to Brandon and Chase.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann (MacLean) Long; his son, Danny Long (Laura Walsh) and his daughter, Laura Long (Tom Bungay), both of North Sydney. Also surviving are his two grandsons, Brandon Long and Chase Musgrave; his five siblings, Bill Long, New Glasgow, Debbie Sakalauskas, Sydney Mines, Betty Albert, Caraquet, NB, Michael “Mickey” (Darlene) Long, Dartmouth, Rita (Brian) McCully, Lawrencetown; his father and mother-in-law, Russell and Agnes MacLean, North Sydney and by several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Stan was predeceased by two sisters-in-law, Sharon and Margaret.
The family would like to thank the staff of the CB Regional hospital and the CB Cancer Centre for the care and kindness shown to Stan during his illness.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2017 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph Church North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Cancer Centre.
