Lyon’s Brook

The death of Charles E. “Charlie” Jones, formerly of Lyon's Brook occurred Wednesday evening November 8, 2017 in Valley View Villa, where he resided for the past two years with his wife Doris A. (Munro) Jones. Born in Stanstead, Quebec on February 18, 1926, Charlie was the youngest of three children born to the late Robert and Eva May (Smith) Jones. Charlie spent his early years in Hartland, New Brunswick working on farms before moving to Sarnia, Ontario where he was a long-term delivery driver for Silverwood Dairies. Silverwood Dairies was the last dairy in Canada to convert to motorized delivery, making Charlie and his horse Duke one of the last horse and wagon delivery teams in the country. He moved to Lyon's Brook in 1976 taking a position at Michelin Tire from which he retried in 1991. He was a member of the Lyon’s Brook United Church. In his spare time he loved to do woodworking in his shop and play his accordion, guitar and harmonicas. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine R. (DeLong) Jones of Sarnia; siblings, Robert Jones and Mary (Jones) Camber, both of Magog, Quebec; and stepdaughter, Linda Munro of Lyon's Brook. He is survived by son, Sheldon (Diana) Jones of Sarnia; their children, Daniel Jones of Peterborough; and Jennifer (Stephen) Parker; and their daughters, Hailey, Eva and Olivia of Kanata; and son, Darrell (Maureen) Jones of Scotsburn; their children, Cortney at UPEI and Robbie at Dalhousie. He is also survived by step sons, Charlie (Mary Lou) Munro of Pictou Landing; their sons, Scott (Sadie) Munro of Edmonton, Ryan Munro (Erin Grant) of Victoria; and their son, Alexander; and Andrew Munro (Kelly van den Hoogan) of Ft. McMurray; and Stewart (Susan) Munro of Hardwood Hill; their sons, Adam (Julie) Munro of Truro and their son, Jack; and Riley (Stephanie) Munro of Blackie Road and their son, Joseph. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the Lyon's Brook United Church on Saturday November 18th, 2017 at 11:00am with reception to follow in the church hall. Presiding will be the Rev. Jim Webber-Cook. A burial service will be held at the graveside in Sarnia, Ontario at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie's memory may be made to the Pictou County Fuel Fund or a charity of your choosing. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Elliott and the nursing staff of 4 South for their excellent care of Charlie while in hospital. A special thank you to the many staff of 2nd floor Valley View who not only ensured comfort for Charlie in his last years, but supported and cared for each of us during our final week at his bedside. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
