After a long, full life, our family matriarch, Margaret (Peggy) Swetnam Tait of Amherst, N.S. has gently and peacefully made the short journey home.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Simpson, grandson, David Simpson, (Karen), two granddaughters, Allyson Marshall (Jason) and Ansley Simpson (Richard Dauphinee), two great-grandchildren, Kaelyn and William Simpson, nieces Gail Swetnam, Chris Swetnam (Joe McNeil), Joan Reeves (Don), and nephews Peter and David Swetnam (Margot).
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob), her parents, Florence and Benson Swetnam, her three brothers, Leslie (in infancy), Ralph (Mornie), Ivan (Ada) and niece-in-law Debbie.
Peggy served with pride in the Women's Army Corps during WWII, was a valued bank employee and a crackerjack legal secretary over the course of her formal working life. An avid bridge player from her teens, she enjoyed the game right to the end and was never happier than when she was playing 7 No Trump! She was also a voracious reader and crossword puzzle aficionado, two activities that along with bridge kept her mind sharp. The cottage at Amherst Shore, where she happily spent 92 or her 95 summers, remained her all-time favorite spot to be. Listening to her stories told over a drink of dark rum at Happy Hour on the deck at the Shore will always be a fond memory for those who knew and loved her.
She has been cremated and visiting will take place at Campbell's Funeral Home Nov 18th from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at Christ Church, Amherst, Nov 18th at 3:00 PM, Rev. Will Ferrey and Rev. Charlotte Ross officiating. A reception will follow in the Christ Church parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to any charity--Peggy's favorites were VON, Cumberland Hospice, Palliative Care at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, and the Molly Appeal (Dalhousie Medical Research).
