Ivan Elmer Jollota
We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather, Ivan Elmer Jollota, on November 14, 2017 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Center with his family by his side.
Born In Sonora, Guysborough County, July 21, 1929, he was the son of the late Elmer George Jollota and Alberta May (Shaw) Jollota. Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by his first wife, Joyce E. (Green) Jollota and his second wife Doris (Chappell, Chapman, Hicks) Jollota, his son Eric I. Jollota, his sister Zeta M. Sullivan and a son and daughter in infancy.
Ivan was a hardworking man throughout his life, having worked on fishing boats, serving in the army, running a gas station, working at Amherst Woodworking and as a commissionaire. Dad was an avid dart player winning many senior championship games. He loved the outdoors and fishing and hunting were a favourite pastime. He was very proud of the 60 year pin and red blanket that he recently received from the Legion.
Together with his first wife, they had eleven children. Dad will always be remembered by his brother and sister-in-law Brian and Vivian Jollota of Lyons Brook , his sister-in-law Irene McLearn of Truro, daughters, Linda Dobson (Albert), Ruth Nickerson (Herb), Shirley Howlett (Roger), Dale Landry (David), Thelma Haynes (Thomas) and Nancy Comeau (Steven) and sons, Timothy, and James (Debbie) Jollota. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
His family would like to take this time to Thank everyone at Victoria Manor for their amazing care of Ivan over the past 4 ½ years and the great care of the nurses at the CRHCC.
As per Dad’s wishes there will be no funeral however a celebration of Ivan’s life will be held on Sunday November 19 from 2-4 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906.
Interment will take place in Pictou County with his first wife at a later date.
