Alfred ‘Pic’ Stewart Pickering

Alfred ‘Pic’ Stewart Pickering, age 82, of Kingston, Nova Scotia, passed away in his sleep early Sunday morning November 12, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. Pic was born August 13, 1935 to Alfred and Kay (McIntosh) Pickering in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. On June 24, 1961 he married Mary Doreen Richard of Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Pic was employed as an electrician in the Canadian Armed Forces for 23 years. He enjoyed all types of athletics both as a participant and spectator. He especially loved baseball, hockey, and golf. Pic was a good cook and ‘fixer’ of everything. He built his own house and loved spending time with his family and friends. Pic was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
Pic is survived by his beloved wife, Doreen of Kingston, NS; his two children, Richard of Boston, MA and Cathy of Halifax, NS; his sister, Judy MacKeigan of Glace Bay, NS; his brother, Carl (Moe) Pickering of Glace Bay, NS, and his three grandchildren, Sam, Colby and Max, as well as many other relatives and friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at St. Monica’s Roman Catholic Church, 37 Connaught Ave., Middleton with Pic’s nephew, Father John MacPherson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Monica’s Catholic Cemetery in Middleton.
