Our dad, Kevin James Armstrong, age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 22, 2017 at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Heatherton, Antigonish County, on January 9, 1934, he was the son of the late Daniel and Annie (Chisholm) Armstrong. Kevin was employed with CN Railway and then Marine Atlantic aboard the vessels until his retirement in 1994. He was a faithful and devoted member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney where he served on many different committees over the years. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Fr. William Kiely Council 5109, Knights of Columbus in North Sydney. He enjoyed baking, cooking, fishing and was always busy fixing things.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie (Merritt) Armstrong, North Sydney; his son, Kevin (Gladys) Armstrong, Sydney; his daughter, Mary Beth Armstrong, North Sydney; his two grandchildren, Kevin David (Shawnee) Armstrong, Ottawa and Haley Armstrong, Sydney; his siblings, Donnie Armstrong, Halifax, Billy (Irene) Armstrong, Ontario, Betty Gray, Halifax and Lauchie (Katherine) Armstrong, Heatherton, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Teresa (Samson) Armstrong, and his three sisters, Rita Chisholm, Helen Brophy and Ann Mattie.
Visitation for Kevin will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
