1919-2017
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Joseph Fredrick Legere, 98, of Point de Bute, NB, and formerly of Sackville and Dorchester, on Monday, November 20, 2017, at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Born in Port Elgin, Albert was a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Donelle) Legere.
Albert was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Carleton and York Regiment in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Following his service, he worked at the Moncton Airport for 2 years, then worked at the Dorchester Penitentiary as an Officer of Corrections. He was an avid photographer and Fly Fisherman. He was a HAMM Radio Operator for 50 years and a life member of the Old Timer's Radio Club and West Cumberland Amateur Radio Club. He was a Life Member of the Sackville Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
He is survived by his wife Nellie (Phinney-Forbes) Legere, Point de Bute; 3 daughters; Lois (David) Tracy, Kentville, NS, Brenda (John) Long, Sackville, NB; Anne Maxwell, Truro, NS; step-daughter Della "Dee-Dee" (David) Landry, Point de Bute, NB; nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, was predeceased by his first wife Joan Rhodes; his sons Ronald, Donald and David, and his son-n-law, Jeff Maxwell. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by brothers Ernest, Cecil, Roy, Joseph, Omer and Leonard, and sisters Doris Cormier, Sarah LeBlanc, Catherine LeBlanc.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (506-364-1300) from where a funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, November 26, 2017 with a burial to follow in the Sackville Cemetery. Pastor Hal Lowther officiating. Sackville Branch, #26, of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday at 1:45 pm.
Donations in memory of Albert may be made to the Westford Nursing Home.
