George F. Carter
1942-2017
George F. Carter, 75 years of age, of Fort Lawrence, passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 30, 2017. Born in Sackville, NB, he was a son of the late Walter & Dorothy (Fillmore) Carter.
George worked hard as a truck driver for over 50 years and a life time farmer. He thrived on driving a truck ever since he was a young boy, being known as a skillful truck driver. He had a great sense of humor, wit and loved to tell stories. He could make most anyone laugh. George always had a smile on his face. He took great pride in the type of cattle he raised with his favorite breed being the Hereford. In his younger years he was well known for his brute strength, serving as anchorman for various tug of war teams. George enjoyed spending time in the woods; It was a vision to see his skillful attributes in handling a team of horses with a sled load of logs. George was known as a very hard worker and the community in which he loved could set their clocks by his punctual daily departures with the dump truck.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Marilyn, daughter, Dorothy, whom he thought the sun rose and set on; sister Edith Fisher of Amherst; sister in laws, Carol Thompson of Vancouver, BC, Brenda Matthews, Kamloops, BC, Gail Tower (Courtney) of Sackville, NB; brother in laws, Brian Thompson (Sharon), Darrell Thompson (Michelle), Ken Thompson (Judy), Frank Thompson (Lorraine) all of Prince George BC., his side kick, Minnow; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his father and mother in law Laurie & Annie Thompson, brother in laws, Fred Fisher, Murray Thompson, sister in law, Lori Annie Thompson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Sunday, Dec 3, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 2 p.m. Burial to take place in the Fort Lawrence Cemetery.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the L.A. Animal Shelter, Heart & Stroke Foundation , or the charity of your choice.
