Karl Bastian of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital with family by his side on Sunday, December 3rd, 2017. At the age of 88 years, Karl had a full and productive life. Karl is survived by his loving wife, Reni Rutkowski-Bastian; his son, James (P.L.) and their children Ryan (Kerry), Jonathan, Ariel, and Jeremy; his daughter, Tanya (Curtis) and their sons Joshua and Matthew. Karl is blessed with two great-grandchildren: Annika and Jack, children of Ryan (Kerry). Karl is also survived by Reni’s son, Guido Maelde (Penny) and their children Emma and Anna; her daughter, Corina Maelde (former husband Paul) and their children Nathen, Savana, and Kaleb. Karl is also survived by his first wife, Margarete Bastian; his sister, Lydia Bastian; brother-in-law, Manfred Liszka; and step-sister, Brigitte Eichert. Karl was born to Elisabeta and Karl Bastian SR on September 22nd, 1932 in Neckarau, Mannheim, Germany. Karl immigrated to Canada in 1952 at the age of 20. In Moose Jaw Karl married Margarete Mueller in 1954. Karl’s community involvement included membership in many organizations to help others. He enjoyed participation within the Saskatchewan German Club, and served as the club’s president. Karl and his wife Reni retired in Moose Jaw, SK where they could be closer to their children and grandchildren. Goodbye to a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
