It is with sadness, we the family regret to announce the passing of Barry ‘Bar’ Aucoin, aged 76, on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland after a brief illness. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on February 26, 1941, Barry was the son of Rita (Chipman) Aucoin and the brother of Anne Murray (both predeceased) and Judy Young (Bruce) of Vancouver, BC. Barry was previously married to and survived by Mary Lou (Dickson) Aucoin and together they had two children Kenneth Gregory (Gerald Crowell) and Barry Douglas both who currently live in Toronto, Ontario.
For the past 18 years, Barry lived with and is survived by his loving companion Isabel ‘Iz’ Drover of Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland and her family; his step-daughter, Christa Ward (Terry), and step-grandchildren, Brady and Emabelle; his step-daughter, Lisa Drover (Rog), and step-grandchild, Roger, and step-daughter, Donna Dalton (Jim), and step-grandchild, Michael. He is also survived by a long list of friends in Cape Breton and in Newfoundland.
Early in his career, Barry worked at the Cape Breton Post and later in his career from the late 1970s he worked for many years at the Sydney Steel Plant (SYSCO), until the late 1990’s when he retired. Over the years, Barry had many hobbies including photography and was well known among his friends as a “Jack-of-all-trades” and would often help his many friends in need.
As requested by Barry, no service will take place but cremation will take place at Hoskins Funeral Home in Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland with interment to take place at a later date.
