It is with broken hearts, that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our loving, husband, father and poppy, David Harold Finney, aged 94, on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Da was born on February 25, 1923 in Sydney Mines. He was the son of the late Henry and Mary Ellen (Holland) Finney.
He worked as a coal miner for 42 years, until his retirement. He was a veteran of the Second World War. Da’s greatest joys were his family and his love of music, which he shared with everyone. His musical legacy now lives on through his sons and grandchildren.
Da is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Helen (Jessome); daughters, Rodgerena (Jimmy) Lyle, Sydney Mines, Diana (Kenny Steele),North Sydney ; sons, Clifton(Kathy) St. John’s Nl, David (Elsie), New Glasgow, Richard (Karen), Bras d’Or, Dennis (Wendy), George’s River, Danny (Della), Corner Brook, Nl, Creston(Monique), Halifax, Leon(Vivian), Bras d’Or; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Ella. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Lillian Finney, Eunice Hyde, Connie Jessome and Carol Jessome; brothers-in-law, Dennis Jessome, Lenny Jessome and Harold Millington; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Da was predeceased by his brothers, Henry, George and Robert (Bob) and a sister, Evelyn.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Veterans Wing of The Harbour View Facility, the staff of 4 West at Northside General Hospital and Dr. Michelle McKeough, for their care and kindness.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main St., Sydney Mines. The funeral service celebrating his life will be held Monday, at 11 a.m. in Carman United Church, Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at a later date.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veteran’s Wing of the Harbour View Facility or charity of one’s choice.
