Norman Russell Gentile, 92, of Sydney, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born at Moxhams’ Castle, he was the son of the late Franceso “Frank” and Adele (Aloutte) Gentile.
‘Normie’ retired from Nova Scotia Power after 47 years. A permanent fixture at Ski Ben Eoin and also a member of the Masters’ race team, he traveled coast to coast competing. He was an avid ice skater and played on Seaboard hockey and bowling teams for over 50 years. His leisure time was spent with his wife, Lucie, traveling, tearing up dance floors (and dandelions), and spending time in Ingonish.
Norman is survived by his sons, Blair (Lisa), Glace Bay and Marcel (Alexa), Ohio; daughter, Lorraine (Peter) Milburn, Shediac and grandchildren, Jillian (Paul) Donovan, Matthew, Jenna, and Samantha.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lucienne Marie-Jeanne (Rohmer) and his siblings, Victor, Umberto, William, Lucy (Wadge), Francis, Lovell, Arthur, and Rusty Gentile.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will take place in the chapel on Monday at 12:15 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
