It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Allan Aboud, age 70, on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at the An Cala Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on May 1, 1947, in Sydney, Allan was the son of late Moses and Mary Aboud.
Allan is survived by his sisters, Sister Helen Aboud C.N.D., Theresa McKay, Beverlodge AB, Rosemary Wheatley, Halifax; granddaughter, Brittany; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Allan was predeceased by his siblings, Charlie, Josephine, Annie, Marina, Michael, Joseph, Josephine and his companion, Mary Boudreau.
Allan was a man of great integrity and honesty which he portrayed throughout his life. He always had time for family and friends. In his early years Allan enjoyed playing baseball, bowling and loved a good snooker game at the local pool halls. He also enjoyed drag racing and rebuilding cars with his good friend, Chickie Halloran. Allan could often be seen patrolling the boardwalk and downtown Charlotte Street with his faithful dog, Maggie. Allan had a natural ability to finish any task he put his mind to… patience he had!
Allan’s work ethic began early at the age of seven when he could be found doing odd jobs around the neighbourhood. Later he worked for Mason’s Wholesale and Mercer Fuels and eventually started his own company, Abba Dabba Fuels as a distributor for Ultramar.
During his brief illness, Allan was supported by family, friends and neighbours. A special thanks to his nephews Donnie and Greg Robertson for their commitment and dedication given to their friend and uncle, Allan.
Visitation for the late Allan Aboud will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. A reception following the Mass will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in memory of Allan may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney or Loaves and Fishes.
The family gives a big thank you to all the doctors and nurses in the palliative care unit and the VON for the care given to Allan during his time of need.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
