TAYLOR, Richard George “Dick” - It is with great sadness that the family of Richard George Taylor (84) of Windsor announce his passing on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Hants Community Hospital. He was born in Windsor on July 24, 1933. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Creighton); sons, Colin (Penny), Stephen (Alice), Blair; grandchildren, Graham (Amanda), Evan, Catharina, Alexander, Lesley (Graham), Melanie, Adam; brother, Conrad “Tip” (Lois); sisters, Florence (Erskine), Annabelle, and many nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Colin and Florence Taylor, and his brother, Ronald. Dick attended Windsor Academy, King's College School, and graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1956. Following his graduation, he assumed the presidency of Avonian Motors Ltd., and continued in this capacity for over 40 years. Dick loved the Town of Windsor and was a fervent booster of local participation and philanthropy. He revelled in its history, and shared that knowledge with anyone who would listen. He served the town on the Town Council and was chairman of the Business Development Corporation. Time was spent on the boards of the Avon Valley Greenhouse, Evangeline Savings and Mortgage, and King's-Edgehill School. He was a past president of the Nova Scotia Automobile Dealers Association. Dick had been an active member of the Rotary Club, Gyro Club, Windsor Curling Club, Avon Valley Golf Club, and the Lunenburg Yacht Club. Dick and Ruth enjoyed travelling, particularly their sailing trips in the Caribbean and Greece. He treasured time spent at the family cottage on Herman's Island, where he loved to entertain, cook lobsters and barbecue steaks. His fondest place of retreat was “The Ponderosa,” at Long Lake, where memorable times were had with a four generation span of fishing buddies. The family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Hants Community Hospital, particularly the staff of unit 200. Memorial donations may be made to the Hants Community Hospital Foundation, 89 Payzant Drive, Windsor, NS B0N2T0, or to a charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m. Friday, December 22. A funeral service celebrating Dick’s life will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, December 23 in Windsor United Church, 613 King St., Windsor, Rev. David Hann officiating.
