TOMPKINS, ROY A. - The passing of Roy Ashley Tompkins of Upper Kingsclear, N.B. occurred suddenly at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. He was 69. Born in Canterbury, N.B. on March 9, 1942, he was the son of Elva M. (Collier) Tompkins and the late Ashley H. Tompkins. Roy was a retired Painting Contractor. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a Lake George camper. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Elaine (Hayden) Tompkins; two sons, Glen Tompkins and Rourke Tompkins; six much loved grandchildren, Sarah Murray, Austin Murray also Megan Tompkins, Ashleigh Tompkins (and their mother Kim), Samantha Thibodeau-Tompkins and Hunter Tompkins. Roy is also survived by his mother Elva Tompkins of Fredericton; a brother Lloyd Tompkins (Marie) of Hanwell and a sister Candyce Johnson of Silverwood; a number of nephews including a very special nephew Troy Tompkins and a number of nieces; aunts, uncles and cousins. Roy is also survived by his “best buddy” Roy Kelly. Predeceased by his father, Ashley Tompkins in 1999 and his daughter Vicki E. Tompkins-Murray in 1999.
The family will receive condolences at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, on Friday, May 6 from 7 to 9 P.M. and on Saturday, May 7 from 2 to 4 P.M. A service celebrating the life of Roy Tompkins will be held from First Wesleyan Church, Duncan Lane, Fredericton on Saturday, May 6, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. with Rev. Terry Messer and Rev. Matthew Maxwell officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Pallbearers will be Glen Tompkins, Austin Murray, Hunter Tompkins, Tony, Troy and Ricky Tompkins, Marc Johnson, Shawn Johnson. Honorary Pallbearer will be Rourke Tompkins. NO FLOWERS BY FAMILY REQUEST. The family has suggested memorial contributions be sent to the N.B.
