Hazel Brownell

Brownell, Hazel - Hazel Brownell of Moncton passed away at McNair Manor on Friday, May 6, 2011 at the age of 94. Born in Chipman, N. B. She was the daughter of Guy & Ethel (Pace) McCallum and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Hazel lived most of her life in Moncton. Hazel is survived by her children: Mary (Bruce) Tower, Moncton, Elizabeth (John) Petitpas of Riverview, Bill (Donna) Brownell; Anne (Brian) Stott, Halifax N. S., Arthur “Bud” (Maureen) Brownell, Welland Port, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur 1977; and sons: “Jack 2005” and “Beverly 2009”and grand-daughter “Carrie 1980” She is also survived by 14 grandchildren & many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a great great grandchild. Hazel was a woman ahead of her time. A self taught chef – she could make a gourmet meal out of anything. She worked at several restaurants in the Moncton and N.S. areas as “Pastry Chef Extraordinaire”. Mom’s favorite place on earth was her cottage at Caissie Cape where she spent 40 summers, surrounded by family & friends – all were welcome – there was always room at the table and plenty of food and a place for visitors to stay for the night. Hazel was a cancer survivor (four times) and had many sicknesses in her life – none of which kept her from living life to it’s fullest. After the age of 70 she volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Red Cross, worked with Disabled people, traveled through Europe and lived with and looked after grandchildren until she was well over 80. Hazel could outplay the best of us with her talent at Scrabble and she had a unique ability to put a puzzle together while the rest of us were trying to figure it out.
For the past (three) years her home was at McNair Manor in Moncton. The care, support and love given her there will always be remembered and appreciated by the “Brownell” family. Hazel attended Gunningsville Baptist Church and was a Dominion Life Member of UBWMU.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007) on Monday from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9, the funeral service will be held from Cobb’s Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, May 10th at 1:00 PM with Rev.
