It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, John Orrell. John passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the C.B. Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 11, 1941 in North Sydney, the only son of the late Edward (Teddy) and Verna (Clarke) Orrell.
John started his work career as a stevedore with CN Marine. He later moved to work for Weldon MacDonald Backhoe & Trucking in North Sydney, and retired from the Public Works Department of the CBRM after 25 years of service.
In his retirement he enjoyed various metal and woodworking projects, and could get lost for hours in the basement working on his model boats.
John is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 47 years, Virginia (Bond) Orrell; his son Eddie (Jane) Orrell, North Sydney; his daughters, Karen (Frank) Marks of East Lawrencetown, NS and Lesley (Steve) Taylor, Lower Sackville, NS; his five grandchildren, Bhreagh and Bryden Orrell, Jamie and Greg Taylor and Mackenzie Marks; his two sisters, Marylyn Shaikh of Sydney Mines, Sharon (John) Bachynski of Lower Sackville.
He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Dr. Moe Shaikh.
Visitation for John will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Northside Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 399 North Sydney, NS, B2A 3M4.
